A few weeks ago, a Brazilian priest went missing. No foul play is suspected, and rescuers know exactly what happened to the man. The priest wanted to build a retreat center for his congregation, but he didn’t have enough support from the members of his parish. So the priest decided to try to set the world record for flying using helium-party balloons. The priest was strapped to the balloons, and had a radio strapped to him. Shortly after take off though, the priest went missing off the coast and was suspected to fall into the ocean. He was never found, and the search has recently been called off. Think twice before you try to a world record
I’m sick and tired of people complaining about gas prices and blaming Bush, gas companies, etc. for them. First of all, it was only going to be a matter of time before gas prices were going to rise like they did. Second of all; if you compare our prices to the rest of the world, we still have some of the lowest prices out there (you think it’s bad, try Europe for size.) Finally, this goes out to all of you environmentalists out there, let us dig in Alaska, or off the coast of Texas. This will help reduce gas prices; not alternative fuels.
I’ve said this before, and I’ll say this again, I really don’t like talking about politics, but it’s so prevelant now with this being an election year, so I have to bring it up again. The DNC is now thinking about allowing Michigan and Florida delegates count. Well some of them at least. This is occurring because Hilary Clinton complained enough about them not counting, and she is trying to find any vote to win the nomination. The DNC origninally stated that the delegates wouldn’t count, and they still shouldn’t. If I were a voter in Floriday or Michigan, and I found out that my vote wouldn’t count, I wouldn’t go vote. How many voters are there like me, and is it enough to sway the vote? If the DNC wants these votes to count, then they need to hold elections in those states again.
John Edwards endorsed presidential candidate Barack Obama today. Honestly, does anybody care? When I choose a presidential candidate, I vote on the person who I beleive is best for the country; not who some senator thinks is best. Also, do endorsements help, or hurt a candidate? If I disliked a senator, and he came out and supported the candidate I supported, I would have to think about my decision again. I just can’t wait until the primary season is over, and we can get to the “real election season.” It’ll be interesting to see what happens in November.
Yesterday, four California judges ruled that that a constitutional ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional. What makes me more upset about this ruling than anything is that the four judges felt that they had a bigger voice than the majority of California voters, and ruled in favor of the minority group. People wonder why American’s don’t vote.
There is an outcry for women priests, and that the Catholic Church is afraid of the ‘women power’ or is an ‘all male club.’ Picture this for a moment. You’re watching a movie on the Civil War, and Abraham Lincoln is about to give his famous speech that abolish slavery. The president walks on the stage, and it’s a woman. Wouldn’t you be outraged? In the Catholic Church, the priest stands ‘In Persona Christi’ (in the person of Christ). He is not a mere person, he actually takes on the role of Christ to adminster the sacraments that Christ instituted. To have a women priest is much like having a women Abe Lincoln.
I’m tired of all the negative stories surrounding our lives today. Republicans arguing with Democrats, people complaining about high gas and food prices, people complaining about the wages they earn. Truth is, all of us can complain about something; but when you view life in someone else’s eyes, then yours doesn’t seem so bad. Think about the people living in China right now… I dare you to complain about high gas prices.
Don’t know if you heard this one; but the other week a man was driving his truck when he struck and killed a dog. Of course the dog died, and the owners were left to grieve its loss. Instead of the driver apologizing to the family and sending his condolences, he is suing the family for damages to his truck. Kind of makes you glad to me an American, huh?
Today is Mother’s Day, and I would like to wish all of you mother’s; especially my wife, and my mom, a Happy Mother’s Day. Having said that, I hate Mother’s Day. For Mother’s Day, everybody is expected to get their mom, or wife if she’s a mom, some form of present, and/or make breakfast in bed. We do this because we want to show our mom that she’s special. Let’s think about this for a moment. To show mom that she’s special, we’re expected to do something that millions of other families are doing. That’s special? Before you celebrate Mother’s Day next year, how about you celebrate an “un-mother’s Mother’s Day.” A day that you set aside to show that you love and respect your mom (or wife) when she’s not expecting it.
Saturday was both a great day and a tragic one for horse fans around the country. The 134th running of the Kentucky Derby was held, and America saw a glimpse of a potential Triple Crown winner when they saw Big Brown win the Derby. But with all the awe and majesty that surrounded this horse; there was a painful reminder how dangerous this sport can be. After the race ended; Eight Belles fell to the ground and had to be euthanized on the track. Now PETA wants the jockey to be suspended because they claim that the jockey may have pushed the horse too hard, and if he would have eased up, he could have saved the horse. I find this highly unlikely, because horses break down in this sport; and death is an unfortunate consequence. Seeing PETA act this way makes me wonder; had the horse bucked the jockey off and killed him, would PETA be crying foul, or just claiming it as part of the sport?
