Self Control

One characteristic that humans have that many animals don’t posess is self-control. Self-control is a very important characteristic that is often overlooked, and it needs to be examined closely, and we need to teach it to our children at home and in school. Because there is a lack of self-control; the me generation exists, people are overweight, the mortgage crisis is ocurring, and people are in debt up to their eyeballs. As a society we tend to feel sorry for these people: “Oh, their house got foreclosed on they must have been victims.” “That person is overweight, it must be heredity, or the fault of McDonald’s and all the transfat.” Because we live in such a sensitive society it’s almost impossible for us to call out a person and place the blame on them. If we try to hold someone responsible we are labled as insensitive, jerks, or even just ignored. It is vitally important that we learn self control as a society and teach it to our children, because if we don’t learn it, who knows what will happen during the next generation.

One of the hardest things that I had to work with during my teaching career was all the different technology providers.  We had a different provider for our television, internet and phone line.  It became a headache when one of these systems went down, and sometimes it took days for the provider to get them back up.  But not anymore.  Now there exists a Wireless Wan company that provides broadband WAN, Internet and VoIP telephony services for your students’ success.  School districts are noticing students being more engaged using this service, and there are less headaches for districts because they are dealing with one vendor instead of multiple.  When a contract expires with one of your vendors, visit trillion.net to see what they can do for you.

Heart-Wrenching Story

I got home Friday afternoon and did my usual routine: kiss my wife and kids, and then hop on the internet to see if there are any news stories to write about.  On one of the websites I visited, there was a heart-wrenching story about how minimum wage earners are struggling to make it.  The story described how an employee had to use the first paycheck of the month towards bills and such, and the other paycheck went to much the same.  The employee complained about how minimum wage was way to low, and that he wasn’t able to much other than live.  He is actually starting to consider going back to school.  I have a huge problem feeling sorry for minimum wage earners.  The majority of minimum wage earners are either illegals, lazy, or students.  Yes, I do believe that there is a rare occurance that the best someone can do is earn minimum wage and these people need all the help and support available; but the VAST majority belong in the demographic described above.  The ones who are illegal can’t go anywhere else until they earn citizenship, the ones who are students will find better jobs in a few years after earning their degree, and the ones who are lazy; why should I help them?  We live in a country that values eduacation, and allows people to go to school on government money and not pay back on loans for 6 months once school is out.  Everybody has an opportunity to make their lives better if they want to, and those who are stuck on minimum wage typically don’t want to help themselves; they want a handout, not a hand up.  I’m all for giving a hand up, but why should I have to suffer more by giving a hand out to those who don’t intend to make their lives better?  We need to stop feeling sorry for these people, and motivate them to do better, because they can.

The Dangers of Contraception

The purpose of this post was to discuss the dangers of contraception.  The problem is that this is such a polarizing subject, that I couldn’t really find any articles without some form of bias.  So, then let me close NFP awareness week by sying these two things about contraception.  1) Contraception has a lot more side effects and more dangerous side effects than your traditional drug.  Some deaths have been linked to it, and any kind of long term effects and other side effects are still being researched.  2)  Take a moment and think of contraception like this:  Contraception is the only drug on the market that attempts to take something that works and functions properly, make it so it doesn’t work.  Shouldn’t that raise some eyebrows?  If my doctor came to me and said, well, everything is working properly, but I want to give you a prescription that causes (name body part/organ here) to stop working properly.  That sounds suspicious to me, and I wouldn’t want anything to do with it.

I hope that you enjoyed reading the special on Natural Family Planning, and my hope is that you grew an understanding to what the church teaches.  Have a good rest of the weekend.

Believe it or not, it’s that time of year again. The days are getting shorter, the swim suits and pools are being replace with backpacks and notebooks, and you can hear the sound of the coaches whistle on the field. It’s time for the college students to go back to school. Instead of making several trips to the campus and back, or renting a truck, check out upack.com. Upack.com will come by with a trailer, you have three days to load everything up, and then moving trucks will come by and pick up the trailer. Once you get to campus, you have three days to unload everything, and then the drivers will return and pick the trailer up. All costs are included in the estimate, and there are no hidden charges. So when your college student is ready to return next month, take a look at this company to see if it’s right for you.

NFP- My Experience

We are down to the final two days of our NFP awareness week blogging special. I’m writing this because I care, and if your reading this by now it’s because you’re intregued. The last couple of days is going to go like this: today I’m going to write about my experience with NFP, and tomorrow I’m going to explain the risks of birth control (no, I will not say the pill and breast cancer statistic).

For a man, NFP is very challenging. It is very hard for me to sleep next to my wife, be in the mood, and not be able to touch her. In fact, there have been a couple of times wishing that my wife were on the pill. When I think this way, two things hit me. 1) This is extremely selfish! I want my wife on the pill so that I can have instant gratification. This is a selfish desire, and I am learning to conquer this desire. 2) When you listen to the terminology between birth control and NFP, you here this subtle yet major difference in lingo; a) My wife is on the pill. There is no couple interaction or choice really involved in this. The woman goes to the store herself, takes it herself, and is essentially making her a slave to her husband. b) My wife AND I are practicing NFP. NFP takes both the husband and wife to make it effective. This is where my wife and I can practice NFP better. The fertile period is a really good time for us to strengthen our marriage. If I’m in the mood, and we’re in the “no touch zone,” then we should stay up and talk for a little bit, watch a movie together, etc. The no touch days are there to allow us to reconnect on a non-physical level, and after 10-14 days we can reconnect on a physical level, and it’s like our wedding night all over again. Also, the no touch days allow me to express my love in other ways; take out the garbage more often, watch the kids so she can go out, be there for her emotionally. As a husband, this is what I need to do during the fertile period, and this is where I often fail. But, I will learn, I will learn to use the fertile days as a time to strengthen our marriage, not pitty myself.

The Catholic Church is often cited for being too strict, too 20th or 19th century, etc. But it should be her wisdom that should be cited, that should get all the attention. It is in the Church’s wisdom that teaches NFP and is against birth control; because of this teaching there are many happy couples sharing their joy and love with each other.

To be honest with you, I have always wanted to own my own business. I don’t necessarily want to work it full time, but at least run a part-time business, or start one up with my wife so that she can run it. I have just stumbled on a great site for when the time comes. No, it’s not one of those get rich or pyramid schemes. It’s a site that you can search for commercial real estate. This site allows you to search over 400,000 listings that is good for warehouses, office space, or executive offices. When the time comes around, I’m going to look at this site, and so should you.

Is NFP effective?

July 24, 2008 / Posted by: User Imageadmin / Category: Catholic Church, Current Events, Family, Today's Society, Uncategorized, Values

One of the biggest complaints about NFP is that it’s too hard to follow the guidelines; there are too many rules; or you mean we have to wait THAT long before we have marital relations again!  One thing that you will want to know about NFP is that it is very effective in both preventing pregnancy, and acheiving pregnancy.  The catch is that you must follow the guidelines of the women’s cycle.  If you flirt with the rules, you flirt with pregnancy, and if you abide by them, there is a good chance that your wife will not get pregnant.

More than acheiving or preventing pregnancy, NFP is effective on the marriage.  I’m sure you know that right now, there is a 50% + divorce rate in the United States.  Did you also know that there is a 50% divorce rate in the Catholic Church?  But, of the 10%-15% that follow NFP (yes, only 10%-15% of catholics follow this teaching) 95% + remain married until the death of one of the spouses.  (You may lift up your jaw now).  This probably comes as surprising to you, but if you try to understand the purpose of NFP, you begin to realize why.  Contraception encourages and makes the woman ready on demand.  If a man asks his wife to contracept, the man is asking his wife to be ready for his desire 24/7.  This does not foster a deep relationship among the marriage, it fosters a SELFISH relationship among the husband and wife (the man expects his wife to be willing, and the couple is closed to life; children teach the act of selflessness.  You see, NFP promotes communication among husband and wife, and it also promotes selflessness by the controlling of one’s desires, and fostering of children.

As you can see, NFP is effective in two very important ways: it prevents or acheives pregnancy, and it helps the marriage bond.  If you want to know more about birth control, and how one Pope prophesized how it would effect the world, visit this link: http://www.papalencyclicals.net/Paul06/p6humana.htm
