Driving Age

Getting a license is every 16 year old’s dreams. A license represents freedom, maturity, and responsibility. The problem with this is that a 16 year old shouldn’t need freedom, the aren’t mature, and definately are not responsible. I didn’t get my license until my freshman year in high school, and I saved myself a bunch of money on car insurance and gas. I still was able to get around be means of bus, bike, and carpool, and wasn’t taunted by my peers.

Studies show that 16 year olds are more likely to get into a car accident than any other age group. Heck, the majority of 16 year holds can’t do homework and watch tv at the same time. What makes us think that they can drink a soda, pick up that french fry off the floor and avoid that car in front of them?

The driving age needs to be raised. If the driving age were to be raised, insurance rates would probably go down for everybody, accidents would decrease, and lives will be saved. Instead of reducing the maximum freeway speed from 75 to 55, maybe congress should pass a national driving age and general requirements for teenage drivers to meet.
