I’m as much as a football fan as the next guy. There is nothing like watching the number 1 and number 2 team taking the field and beating the crap out of each other. There is nothing like arriving early at a Sun Devil game and watching the band march right next to the stadium as they play the fight song as fans cheer and clap.
But football is football, and it is not the end all or be all. I understand that the football program is the cash cow of any major university, but there needs to be a line drawn. In a time where jobs are being cut, hiring freezes are taking place, and tuition is rising at an alarming rate; ASU announced that they were going to spend 170 million dollars on stadium renovations. Now, I’m certain they have the money to do it; at least I hope, but somewhere down the line, student’s are going to have to pay. They’ll pay through sports programs being cut, tuition rising, or cost of books sky rocketing. Now is not the time.
The football program is the center point of the majority of sports programs. The sights, the sounds, and the fun are a way for students and fans to forget about what is going on in their lives. But a university exists to educate the next generation, and it’s getting harder to send students to college. Now is not the time to add a 170 million dollar tab.

The sad reality of this election is that a lot of people believe that we need “change,” and change needs to start with the president and our government. Because of this, many people are willing to believe anything that Obama has to say, and when any negative news comes out against him, they charge racism, fear mongoring, or negative campaigning by McCain. The truth of the matter is, I am convinced that John McCain will lose this election, and there is not much that we can do but wait for the man that claims “spreading the wealth around is best for America” to take office.
Listed below are some entries from the cnn.com discussion board relating to the topic of ACORN and Obama. It’s scary to how blind some people are.
WAKE THE HELL UP PEOPLE.
IT IS NOT MORE DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND THAN THIS:
MCCAIN IS DESPERATE AND WILL DO AND SAY ANYTHING THAT, IN HIS DERANGED MIND, HE THINKS WILL HELP.
DESPERATE ACTIONS BY A VERY, BITTER, ANGRY OLD MAN.
ACORN is not a Democratic entity…they register all voters. Keep your eye on the Republicans, they have ecperience in STEALING elections, and preventing eligible voters from voting. Volunteer as a poll watcher, so when voters get turned away there is help at the polling place.
The simple fact of the matter is registering fake names, addresses etc. still doesn’t equal voter fraud. Why? Because you still have to show up and present ID to vote to verify that you are you. It’s all a mute point unless people actually vote repeatedly or illegally.
You don’t have to worry Sen Obama, we will not fall for the repugs’ game.
We will stand up for our rights and not be intimidated by the repugs. We are aware of the tricks and games they play on voters. We’ve got your back.
This type of thinking and reasoning is why Obama will win in November. “The grass is greener on the other side, huh?”
Do you remember when Sarah Palin was tapped by John McCain to be his running mate? The medai couldn’t wait to dig up any bad publicity regarding her political life in Alaska. So, they dug up troopergate, questioned her parental responsibilities when it came out that her daughter was pregnant, and even questioned her decision to return to the office just days after she delivered her 5th child. I understand that the media wants the people to understand who this candidate is, but what are they doing to show America who Obama is?
The media is doing absolutely nothing. They are presenting Obama as this savior of the world, or as McCain calls him “The Messiah.” The biggest glaring example of this is Obama’s connection to ACORN. For all of you who do not know, ACORN is a “bipartisan” group that goes to various towns around the country and holds election drives for low-income earners. A couple of things about this group. 1) They are not truly bi-partisan. There target group is low-income minority citizens (we all know who they vote for), and the group has come out to edorse Obama as president. 2) Several of the registration drives that ACORN has sponsored have produced fraudulent registrations.
Now there are two stories here that the media needs to report. The first is that thousands of voter registrations are fraudulent, and this could severely effect the outcome of the election next month. 2) Obama has worked closely with this group in the past, and the group has sought Obama for legal advice in the past.
If you run a google search for Obama and ACORN, the only groups that are bringing this to our attention are conservative papers and blogs; you won’t find it in the main stream media. In fact, I’ve only seen one news organization besides FOX news bring this up, and that’s CNN. I will talk about that interview tomorrow.
The biggest thing about this is that the media is controling this election by what they do and do not report; and what they don’t report can be far more damaging that what they do. True; Sarah Palin using her power to fire her former in-law is a story, and one that should be reported. But Obama’s connection to ACORN is one that is being overlooked, and the media is turning it’s head because they want the Messiah elected. I’m not just saying this, my mom just left the media a few months ago, and she no longer can stand the MSM because of its bias.
Ok, I’m back to blogging. This week was a very hectic week for my family, and I had to put it on the back burner. I’m back now, and hopefully I won’t have to stop again for a while.
This past week, we all witnessed a the debate, heard sound clips from rallies, and saw the stock market fall everyday. Both candidates believe something needs to be done to bail out wall street and main street. While we wait to see if the first bailout bill will be effective or not, I have two lingering questions that neither candidate has addressed.
1) Once bad mortgages are bailed out, and families are rescued, what are you going to do to make sure that the same thing doesn’t happen again? Sure, some people were blind to what they were signing. I’m sure though that the majority got into this mess becase they were greedy, and were presented with an opportunity to purchase something that was well above their means.
I firmly believe that if we are going to bail these families out, then we need to provide them with some courses, reading materials; anything. Because if we don’t, then it’s going to happen again, and it could hit even harder.
2) My wife and I were offered an ARM loan. We discussed it with our lender, and asked all the questions that we needed to. Because we asked the right questions, and knew what we could afford, we avoided the loan and stuck with the conservative 30 yr. fixed. My wife and I know that we are not going to be here for 30 yrs. but it was the best option for us.
So my question is; what is the government going to do to reward us and the other homeowners who knew that ARMS were very dangerous? See, all I see is the government bailing out the banks and families that got us into this mess, and handing the tab to those that were responsible. I believe that if the government is going to bail out those who got into the mess, they need to reward those who avoided it.
This is why I disagree with the democrats when it comes to butting in. They always create programs for the less fortunate; and then hand the tab over to those who don’t use them and say things like: “Paying taxes is patriotic.”
Finally I’m scared. We are less than 4 weeks from possibly facing a democratic president, judiciary, house and filibuster proof senate. Be afraid… be very afraid.
