Tollerance, acceptance, and …

We all know that there was a tragic school shooting that took place earlier this week. What you may not know is that the victim was a young gay teen you decided to flaunt his sexuality. Because school districts are becoming more liberal, and are open to anything except for conservative values (because we’re closed minded and believe in right and wrong), the district allowed this gay teen to wear make-up and female clothing to school. I’m sure the ACLU, other civil liberty and gay groups applauded the decision, and are thankful for the expression that the school allowed this teen to show. The family on the other hand believes that the allowance of these actions is what ultimately lead to the teen’s death. Over the next few months, lawsuits will probably be filed, conservative groups will say that the teen should not have been allowed to do this, and civil liberty groups will blame the school for not have CIA opperatives watching his every move and protecting him.

Being gay is not normal. Less than 10% of the world population is gay. The real reason that gays are being treated the way they are is because they want to flaunt their sexuality to the whole world and MAKE people accept the lifestyle. Look, as a society we accept the gay person as who they are. We don’t accept the lifestyle, and it makes sense. We are programed to reject things that are abnormal (cancer, diseases, bad food, etc). Tollerance and acceptance needs to be evaluated, and then rejected. We need to love the person; and not be forced to tollerate or accept the lifestyle. It’s because of this doctrine that this poor teen is now dead.

Is NFP effective?

One of the biggest complaints about NFP is that it’s too hard to follow the guidelines; there are too many rules; or you mean we have to wait THAT long before we have marital relations again!  One thing that you will want to know about NFP is that it is very effective in both preventing pregnancy, and acheiving pregnancy.  The catch is that you must follow the guidelines of the women’s cycle.  If you flirt with the rules, you flirt with pregnancy, and if you abide by them, there is a good chance that your wife will not get pregnant.

More than acheiving or preventing pregnancy, NFP is effective on the marriage.  I’m sure you know that right now, there is a 50% + divorce rate in the United States.  Did you also know that there is a 50% divorce rate in the Catholic Church?  But, of the 10%-15% that follow NFP (yes, only 10%-15% of catholics follow this teaching) 95% + remain married until the death of one of the spouses.  (You may lift up your jaw now).  This probably comes as surprising to you, but if you try to understand the purpose of NFP, you begin to realize why.  Contraception encourages and makes the woman ready on demand.  If a man asks his wife to contracept, the man is asking his wife to be ready for his desire 24/7.  This does not foster a deep relationship among the marriage, it fosters a SELFISH relationship among the husband and wife (the man expects his wife to be willing, and the couple is closed to life; children teach the act of selflessness.  You see, NFP promotes communication among husband and wife, and it also promotes selflessness by the controlling of one’s desires, and fostering of children.

As you can see, NFP is effective in two very important ways: it prevents or acheives pregnancy, and it helps the marriage bond.  If you want to know more about birth control, and how one Pope prophesized how it would effect the world, visit this link: http://www.papalencyclicals.net/Paul06/p6humana.htm

What is Natural Family Planning

First of all, let me say that Natural Family Planning is NOT the Catholic form of birth control.  Birth control attempts to avoid pregnancy, and those who practice birth control are completely closed to life.  Natural Family Planning is a way that married couples, who have good reason to prevent pregnancy ABSTAIN, marital relations during the women’s fertile period.  The difference between NFP and contraception is that those who practice NFP are OPEN to life; they are not using artificial means to prevent pregnancy.  Rather, they are using natural biological signs that a fertile woman gives.  To tell the most fertile days, couples chart the basil body temerpature and the cervical mucas of the woman.  As the woman approaches peak day (ovulation), the women’s temerature generally peaks, and the cervical mucus is thin and stretchy (easiest form of mucus for sperm to swim through).  Couples who wish to avoid pregnancy avoid marital relations about a week before peak day, and a few days afterward.  Those who follow the rules of NFP are 98% effective in preventing pregnancy; and the remaining 2% are thankful for the life inside the womb because they were always open to life.

If you have any questions, ask away, and if you are interested in finding out more about Natural Family Planning, visit http://www.usccb.org/prolife/issues/nfp/information.shtml.

That’s the basic overview of NFP.  Tomorrow, we will take a look at why the Catholic Church teaches NFP.

Natural Family Planning

The Catholic Church gets a bad wrap.  Sometimes I feel that my church is attacked more than the extreme Muslim sect who wage Jihad.  We get labeled as too conservative, hypocritical, out of touch, etc.  When Pope John Paul II passed away, many journalists, non-Catholics and liberal Catholics were hoping that a more liberal pope would be elected so that some of the controversial teachings would possibly go away.  First of all, regardless of the pope, church doctrine does not disappear like bills and laws passed by a previous president.  Doctrine is revealed to the Church by the Holy Spirit, and will stay through the life of the church.   One of the more difficult teachings of the church is the teaching of the evils of contraception.  Well my friends, this week is Natural Family Planning awareness week, and since the media won’t cover this, I will be blogging about this every day this week.  My hope is that you will be more enlightened, and accepting of this teaching.  I will start off tomorrow with the teachings of the church, and what NFP is.

Gardasil-the HPV vaccine

You’ve seen the ads; a teenager is promising to be one less.  The mom is standing beside her stating that she wants her daughter to be one less case of HPV; and that’s why she’s having her child get the vaccine.  Studies are being conducted, and it’s not sounding too good for the girls who get the vaccine Gardasil.  The area where the teenager gets the shot hurts for days, girls pass out, need surgery, and some girls may have died (these cases are still being investigated).

If you have a teenaged daughter, and you allow her to get the shot, you are literally telling her to go out and have sex.  How is this good parenting?  You’re not protecting her, you’re giving her an excuse to be unaccountable for her actions.  Abstinance gets a bad wrap these days, but it’s the only full proof method out there.  The success rate is much better (100%)  than the other options, but people look at the failure rate instead.  Look, my wife and I abstained until marriage.  We did not have out of wedlock children, we do not have STD’s, and best for me; my wife can’t compare me to anybody else.  We’re told these days that woman are strong, well, it takes a strong mom to teach abstinance, and a strong teenager to practice it.  I’m not going to let me children get this shot when they turn of age; I want them to be strong, and if they don’t practice abstinance; then that’s the choice that they will have to make.  My children are going to be one less, one less to get the vaccine.  The choice is up to them what they do without it.

Having Kids is Selfish?

There are some people out there who believe that having a child is one of the most selfish things that can be done.  “Parents are just trying extend their gene pool”, “Imagine the carbon imprant that the kids are going to leave on this earth.”  Um… no.  I have two children, and the children represent the outward sign of my love for my wife.  Also, kids make me unselfish; I pick up their toys when I’m tired, grab them a midnight snack when their hungry, and play tee ball when I want to lay down after a long day at work.  I’m far from being a perfect parent, but I grow less selfish everyday because of my kids.

TV Commercials

My wife and I have two young children; one is almost 3, the is 7 months.  As concerned parents, we worry about watching what we see on tv.  Now a days, we don’t just have to monitor the shows that are on, but also the ads.  Why are there ads for Levitra and Viagra on tv during prime viewing hours, or scary movie trailers that could cause a toddler to lose sleep at night.  I understand that tv stations need to advertise to the target audience, but they also need to understand that young children are watching tv with their parents, and they don’t need to be exposed to certain comercials.

California

Yesterday, four California judges ruled that that a constitutional ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional.  What makes me more upset about this ruling than anything is that the four judges felt that they had a bigger voice than the majority of California voters, and ruled in favor of the minority group.  People wonder why American’s don’t vote.

Negativity

I’m tired of all the negative stories surrounding our lives today.  Republicans arguing with Democrats, people complaining about high gas and food prices, people complaining about the wages they earn.  Truth is, all of us can complain about something; but when you view life in someone else’s eyes, then yours doesn’t seem so bad.  Think about the people living in China right now… I dare you to complain about high gas prices.

Don’t know if you heard this one; but the other week a man was driving his truck when he struck and killed a dog.  Of course the dog died, and the owners were left to grieve its loss.  Instead of the driver apologizing to the family and sending his condolences, he is suing the family for damages to his truck.  Kind of makes you glad to me an American, huh?
