Government Programs

Obama and Biden are quick to attack McCain on tax breaks, and quick to introduce government programs that they want tax payers to pay for; especially the well off. In fact, Biden is calling those who make 250,000+ to be more patriotic and pay more in taxes. I am a firm believer that less is more, especially when it comes to the government. The government’s role is to primarily protect it’s citizens, and to create and enforce laws. I also believe that the people need to take care of each other buy contributing to charitable organizations. Having said that, let’s take a look at the charitable contributions by the presidential candidates and Joe Biden.

In the years 2000-2004, Obama donated .9% of his total income to charity; including tithing, and it wasn’t until he was in the national spotlight that he started to donate a respectable amount… 4.7% in 2005 and 6.1% in 2006. Although I view his contributions as being an insult, his contributions are actually far better than his running mate’s. From 1998-2007, Joe Biden and his wife made a total of $2,450,042, and their TOTAL charitable contribution was $3,690. Now, I make far less than Joe does, but I contribute more to charity than he does.

John McCain, who has been attacked recently for being out-of-touch, has given far more to charity than the two democratic leaders stated above. In 2007, John McCain donated $105,467 to charity (26%) and $64,695 (18%) in 2006. On top of that; all of his royalty fees and pay raises go to charity.

Now I understand that he is married to a wealthy woman, and we don’t know her status, but the bottom line is that McCain gives back to those in need. Why isn’t the media or other’s willing to talk about this? John McCain realises that the rich can and do more with their money than the average citizen. Yes, the rich have bigger houses, more boats, and more toys, but they also give more to a cause; especially a cause of their choice.

One of the greatest things about being human is to be charitable with one’s money. The dems don’t realize this. They don’t trust corporations or people to do this, and they believe that the government needs to fill the role.
