The Mall

I went to the mall today to take my girls to the indoor playground because they were getting a case of cabin fever. What I saw today was literally disgusting! Preteen girls walking around the mall with their butt cheeks hanging out, shirts way too small exposing more than what I desired, and boys wearing pants so low that their boxers would show. In fact, one girl was walking around the mall with her pants unbuttoned, and her underwear exposed. Where are parents today? I know that sometimes being a parent can be ‘uncool’, and we want to let our kids do what the Jones’ do. But, in reality, part of being a parent is laying down the laws, disciplining our kids when necessary, and being ‘uncool.’ Studies also indicate, that kids want expectations, guidelines and borders. It’s with these expectations that children are formed, and morals are established. Parents need to step up and be parents, and not friends. Be their friends when they become parents (or move out). Until then, lay down the law, and establish great expectations because you love your children.
